Description du film :
Semi-biographical remembrance of author Ion Creangă’s childhood in a Romanian village on the countryside. Most remembered is the scene where Nică has much fun while skinny dipping at a lake and has to run home naked because his mother took away his clothes. He wasn’t allowed to go to the lake. There are many more adventures, e.g. when Nică steals and eats cherries on the neighbour’s tree and the woman who owns it goes after him with a besom. He catches a hoopoe, puts it into an empty barrel and cares for it, wanting to sell it on a marketplace. An old man sets the bird free much to Nică’s dismay. The children have to watch the hard punishment of a girl with a whip in the classroom, demanded by the overly pious patron. The teaching methods are like in the Middle Ages, by the way. After the wintertime Nică’s parents send him to the alpine pasture to care for the goats, but he wrecks the hut after turning some fast somersaults down a meadow.
